A useful fit for

A child-size special-edition page to compare when the measured circumference is within the exact XS/S chart and this edition is the one being verified. Chart inclusion is only a try-on starting point.

The main tradeoff

The source gives no distinct performance advantage for the SE suffix over ordinary Dime MIPS; its 480 g figure applies to size S and the documented Mips design is not Spherical.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does “SE” establish a different protective system?

No additional protective system is described on the exact Dime Mips SE page. It names Mips and the usual shell/padding features; it does not name Spherical Technology. Treat the exact style, SKU and color as separate identifiers, not proof of an upgrade.

Which Dime Mips SE sizes and circumference rows are listed?

The page shows XS and S; its chart gives XS 47–51 cm and S 51–55 cm. The shared 51 cm endpoint means trying both exact sizes may still be necessary.

What does the CPSC statement cover?

The page states US CPSC bicycle-helmet compliance for persons age five and older. Check the actual size and physical label; the statement does not promise personal fit or injury prevention.

Giro's Dime Mips SE is a separate US product-page identity, style 100000001400000386, for the youth Dime Mips design. The observed Matte Trench Blue / XS page route resolves to SKU GR-7203262. Its most useful buying lesson is restraint: the official page documents the familiar child-oriented shell, eight vents, Mips, CPSC wording and XS/S size chart, but it does not describe a new protective technology or a new riding discipline that would justify treating “SE” as a performance upgrade. This is a review of that exact edition, not a test of the helmet.

What is documented for the SE edition

The US page calls the product Dime Mips SE Helmet and describes a kids' helmet with eight airflow vents, sweat-absorbent pads, an EPS liner, tough outer shell and riveted webbing anchors. It states compliance with the US CPSC bicycle-helmet standard for persons age five and older and reports 480 g for size Small. The page lists XS and S, and its chart associates XS with 47–51 cm and S with 51–55 cm. These are exact manufacturer disclosures for this listing; the weight belongs to Small only, and the circumference chart is a starting point rather than an individual fit result.

The observed blue finish is visible in the accompanying manufacturer image and the selected route. It is a useful visual cross-check when confirming a seller's edition, but finishes may differ and a photo cannot establish the SKU, condition, safety label or fit of the item actually shipped. Giro also publishes a material-composition list on this SE page. That list is part of the edition's documentation; the ordinary Dime Mips page does not provide the same breakdown, so I do not infer that an unlisted material field is identical across every Dime variant.

The comparison with ordinary Dime Mips

The standard Dime MIPS and the SE page overlap on the key published functions: both name Mips, eight vents, the same XS/S chart and the same size-S weight. The SE route has its own style number, selected color, SKU and image, so it should not be mistaken for SKU GR-7202193 from the Matte Light Pink standard Dime Mips route. At the same time, the source does not establish that the “SE” suffix adds a fit adjustment, a new safety certification, a light, or any other distinct operating capability. A shopper should regard this as a separately identifiable edition whose documented differences are limited, not assume that the suffix means a technical upgrade.

Neither Dime Mips page documents Giro's Spherical ball-and-socket system. The model uses the Mips label, but the strict finder option for a documented Spherical/Mips design does not count conventional or Integrated Mips as equivalent. If that exact feature is essential, use a product assessment that names Spherical Technology powered by Mips; the SE color does not change the evidence.

Fit and certification remain size-specific decisions

The 51 cm endpoint is shared by the two chart rows. That overlap helps explain why a number alone cannot pick XS or S. Measure the rider's circumference level around the head, then follow Giro's placement and adjustment directions and try the actual helmet on. Check level coverage, even contact, strap position, buckle security and whether the helmet stays put when the rider moves. A matching interval does not establish head shape or comfortable retention, and the page gives no individual head-shape profile.

The CPSC statement is age-qualified to five and older. It is a model-page claim, not a prediction of injury protection and not a guarantee that an offer is the exact listed US version. Check the physical marking, model/SKU and included instructions. Giro's page does not say that the SE edition is intended for trail riding specifically, nor does it present independent performance testing. The 480 g number is not a test result by this reviewer.

When it belongs on a shortlist

The SE edition makes the most sense to compare when the exact blue edition is the version under consideration and you want to verify its own style/SKU and manufacturer disclosures. For function-first shopping, compare the standard Dime Mips directly: the published evidence reviewed here shows a close overlap in its core design and size chart, not a demonstrated functional advantage for the SE. If the rider needs the plain non-Mips Dime's chart or does not want Mips, that is a separate product and should be assessed separately rather than inferred from the shared shell family.

Before purchase, confirm style 100000001400000386, the selected size and SKU, exact color, CPSC label, seller return terms and model instructions. Use the manufacturer image as a reference only. Do not assume stock, current price, condition, or crash history from the product page or this assessment.

Research basis: Giro's US Dime Mips SE page and the manufacturer's US recall information were checked for the observed edition. The review is source-based and does not claim ownership, riding, testing, measurement or personal fitting.
